I started DOG DAY AFTERNOONS in September of 1992. I wanted to turn my love of animals (particularly my love of dogs) into a career, so I decided to start a dog walking service. At the time, there were only about a dozen professional dog walkers in San Francisco. Since that time, the dog walking business has exploded. Reports estimate that there are now well over 300 dog walkers in San Francisco!  I am a fully licensed and registered business in the county of San Francisco.  I am also bonded and insured.  I pride myself in giving the highest quality of extremely personalized service available.  I go the extra mile for each and every client - and I wouldn’t want it any other way.  I also offer pet sitting (dog boarding) in my home for my full-time clients.  In 1998 I co-founded the first professional organization for San Francisco professional dog walkers.  My goals were to organize professional dog walkers and show a united front to the government and citizens of San Francisco, to show us as responsible business owners. The organization still exists today (SFPRODOG), although I am no longer involved in its leadership.

My two great loves in life are music and animals.  I am the lead singer of a blues band called HIGHWATER BLUES.  And in addition to walking dogs every weekday, I also devote much of my free time to animal causes, charities, fundraisers and volunteering.  I have volunteered in past years at the San Francisco SPCA in the dog behavior department.  It was there that I honed my dog training skills and was trained to be a dog behaviorist.  I also volunteered at the SFSPCA in their Hearing Dog Program.  Since I had taken many classes in American Sign Language (ASL) in college, I wanted to combine my love of dogs and my interest in ASL and the deaf community, so I learned how to help train dogs to become hearing assistance dogs.  The Hearing Dog Program at the SFSPCA is now gone; however, they have since started their own private Hearing Dog Program.

I also regularly donate my time and services to various animal rescue groups and charities.

PAWS (Pets Are Wonderful Support) is one such organization. I volunteered with the SFSPCA in their Animal Assisted Therapy Program with my own dog OPAL for ten years, until she recently died.
